Freeport Outlets- 60 minutes
Visit the original LL Bean flagship store, shop at the many outlets and enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants, all featuring lobster.
Hallowell- 20 minutes
This picturesque town is known as the "New Orleans on the Kennebec." You'll find great food and live music on Water Street- The Liberal Cup is one of our favorites. Vaughan Woods and the Kennebec River Trail offer great hiking and biking.
Portland- 60 Minutes
Taste the freshest seafood at restaurants in the harbor and stroll through the shops and restaurants at the Old Port. Visit the Portland Head Lighthouse in Fort Williams Park. The Portland airport is one hour from the house.
golfing- 15 minutes
There are 5 golf courses within 30 minutes of the Dome. Augusta Country Club is the closest and is now open to the public.
apple & Berry picking- 20 minutes
Lakeside Orchard hosts a Fall Festival with apple picking, pumpkins and fun for the whole family. For blueberry picking try Steep Hill Farm. For Strawberries, pick at Stevenson's.
fishing- at the house
The North Basin, where the Dome is, has warmer, shallower water and favors such species as smallmouth and largemouth bass (pictured above as caught by our nephew), chain pickerel, and white and yellow perch. The South Basin is much deeper and larger, featuring coldwater fish including brown trout and lake trout.
Whale Watching- 90 Minutes
Boothbay Harbor is 90 minutes from the Dome and closest place for whale watching.
White Water Rafting- 90 minutes
The Kennebec offers great white water rafting 90 minutes from the Dome. The 2017 best dates for high water on the Kennebec are June 17, Sept 9 and Sept 23. Book through North Country Rivers or Penobscot Adventures.
